From the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Councilmember Price has been on the grounds leading a massive humanitarian effort to keep the District 9 community safe. To support neighbors during the global health crisis, Price initiated the following:
- Established a $200,000 bereavement fund to provide financial assistance for COVID-19 related funeral expenses
- Secured Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the community including 10 million surgical masks and thousands of hand sanitizers
- Increased access to testing and vaccines districtwide
- Led efforts to have the first-walk up testing site in the City
- Forged partnerships with the local medical community, including Kedren Community Health Center, St. John’s Community Health, AltaMed Health Services and Central Neighborhood Health Foundation
- Organized pop-up sites at the CD 9 District Office, churches and local parks, which have been servicing the community continuously for over a year
- Brought mobile vaccination pop-up clinics directly to senior facilities and public housing sites
- Mobilized dozens of canvassers to go door-to-door to make appointments (My Turn LA)
- Spearheaded an emergency meal delivery program for seniors
- Coordinated ongoing drive-thru food giveaways across District 9
- Diaper and baby wipe distribution for families
City Council Efforts
- Implementation of a Citywide eviction moratorium to protect tenants against evictions
- Championed “Hazard Pay” legislation, which provided an additional $5 an hour to over 20,000 employees at all major grocery stores and drugstores in Los Angeles for 120 days
- Authored legislation to create the City’s Emergency Business Grant
- As a member of the Budget Committee, Price advocated for a second round of business grants
- On the Council, pushed for the distribution of hundreds of millions of City, State and Federal funding to help with various programs including:
- COVID-19 Emergency Renters Assistance
- COVID-19 Emergency Eviction Defense Program
- COVID-19 Utility Grant Program
- A Childcare Relief and Recovery Fund
- Extended the reduced fee period to obtain Street Vending permits
- Plus an array of others services to benefit vulnerable populations
