Dear Neighbors,
This week, I joined Mayor Karen Bass and Congresswoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove at the Evermont Apartments to celebrate two major investments that will support families here in District 9.
The announcement focused on nearly $3 million in Community Project Funding to improve housing and transportation in Los Angeles. These investments are an important step toward building a stronger, more stable future for our community.
One project I’m especially excited about is the Urban Awnings Development at Crocker Street and Slauson Avenue. This project will create 18 units of affordable housing, something our community urgently needs. Even more encouraging, each unit is expected to cost under $400,000, showing that high-quality affordable housing can also be built cost-effectively. While construction has not yet begun, the project has already reached key milestones and is now in its final planning phase. See the video below for more information.
We also secured $250,000 for climate control upgrades at Pueblo del Rio public housing. This funding will provide energy-efficient air conditioning units and ceiling fans, helping nearly 1,800 residents stay cool and safe during extreme heat.
I’m deeply grateful to Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove for advocating for these critical investments in South Los Angeles. This is what it looks like when we bring real resources home to support our communities.
