What is the South LA Greenway?

The Slauson corridor, from Normandie Avenue to Alameda Boulevard, is a hub of working-class neighborhoods and diverse businesses. Now, this vital artery in District 9 is undergoing a remarkable transformation with the addition of the South LA Greenway Network.

Spanning eight miles, the Greenway will connect eight parks and one senior center, offering continuous pathways for walking, biking, and exploration. By connecting neighborhoods and natural spaces throughout South Central LA, the project will expand green areas, promote a healthier environment, and provide more welcoming community gathering places. With three new parks on the horizon, the South LA Greenway Network is poised to enrich the quality of life for all who live, work, and play in the area.

Upon completion, the Greenway Network will feature new parks, an innovative community center, and connections to existing parks throughout the 9th District. It will also link directly to Metro's Rail to Rail (R2R) project, completed in the summer of 2025, further enhancing mobility and accessibility for residents.

South LA Greenway

Metro’s R2R project revamped abandoned rail lines along Slauson Avenue into walking and biking paths, connecting the Metro K Line (Crenshaw), the Metro J Line (110 freeway), and the Metro A Line (Long Beach). With nearly 60 percent of the project area located in Council District 9, this $143 million investment provides shaded areas, trees, and improved lighting, bringing renewed energy and accessibility to a historically underserved area.
