The Council voted on an ordinance that will better align our laws governing usage of the sidewalk by our homeless neighbors in regards to where personal belongings can be placed. As part of that vote, Councilmember Price co-presented a motion with his colleagues making it illegal to sit, lie, sleep and place belongings within 500 feet of schools and day care centers throughout the City. There has been overwhelming support for this type of policy from our CD9 constituency, and Councilmembers heard directly from LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho at the Council meeting that this action was necessary for the health and safety of our students and their families.
