The Los Angeles City Council approved a report from the Public Safety Committee relative to the volume of mental health and domestic violence calls and incidents that occur annually; and the current resources the Mental Evaluation Unit (MEU) and the Domestic Abuse Response Team (DART) can deploy within the City. The City Council will receive a report within 30 days regarding the capacity and response times that the current MEU and DART resources can deploy and outline any shortfall in resources that prevents the LAPD’s ability to deploy these teams to all qualifying incidents. It will also include a budget proposal for expansion of MEU and DART resources needed to make the programs more widely available in response to mental health emergencies.
