City Council unanimously approved a report from the Economic and Community Development Committee relative to a motion introduced by Councilman Price back in October regarding the creation of a City of Los Angeles Career Pathways Fellowship Program. City Council is instructing the Economic and Workforce Development Department and any Department necessary to form a working group, and in consultation with the City Attorney, develop a plan for the implementation of the Career Pathways/LA Program, to include an outreach and recruitment strategy, participant eligibility and selection criteria, curriculum for classroom training, participant assessment and certification to City employment and City classifications that would be eligible for the program.
The Council adopted the proposed framework in the (EWDD) report. The recommendation is that for participants who successfully complete the Career Pathways/LA program, the City replace the existing Civil Service examination process with Career Pathways/LA which consists of on the job training, classroom instruction and an evaluation, ensuring that the City narrows the equity gap for our most disadvantaged populations such as youth, people of color, women, LGBTQ, and low-income residents.
