The LA City Council voted 12-0 on a pair of motions to censure Councilmen Kevin de León and Gil Cedillo for their roles in the City Hall racism scandal stemming from statements they made during a private meeting in October 2021.
The City Charter gives the Council the power "to adopt, by a two-thirds vote, a resolution of censure with respect to any member of the Council whose actions constitute a gross failure to meet the highest standards of personal and professional conduct, even if the action does not constitute a ground for removal from office under the Charter." Council suspended Rule 88, which allowed the body to adopt the resolution immediately. To read the resolution, click here.
