The City Council has directed the Chief Legislative Analyst (CLA), in coordination with the Economic and Workforce Development Department (EWDD), the Community Investment for Families Department (CIFD), the Bureau of Contract Administration, and the City Attorney's Office, to report on how the City can provide employers and employees with information regarding workplace immigration enforcement and the threat of raids.
The proposed plan includes offering information such as required postings about employer and employee rights in anticipation of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) workplace enforcement. It also involves creating a protocol that requires employers to inform the City if they receive a Notice to Comply with an I-9 audit or if a worksite ICE raid is imminent, while ensuring all necessary privacy protections to safeguard personally identifiable information.
