Dear Neighbors,
The festivities for Black History Month are in full swing, serving as both a time of reflection on our past and a call to action that highlights the importance of recognizing Black voices every day.
On Feb. 7, the Los Angeles City Council kicked off its Black History Month celebrations with an opening ceremony, joined by LA County Federation of Labor President Yvonne Wheeler. The event honored distinguished leaders from the Black community, including acclaimed journalist and essayist Lynell George; Trauma-Informed Youth Development Readiness Instructor George Weaver from Brotherhood Crusade; actor, director, and producer Richard Brooks; and United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) President Cecily Myart-Cruz.
This occasion serves as an opportunity to celebrate the brilliance, resilience, and cultural impact of Black artists, visionaries and change makers who have shaped history and continue to inspire the future. Together, we honor, uplift, and continue the legacy of excellence that fuels progress.
In solidarity,
