Dear Neighbors,

Earlier today, I was joined by residents, neighborhood leaders and Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) Chief Freddie Nuño, to officially launch “Clear the Streets. Reclaim Our Neighborhoods,” a new District 9 initiative focused on addressing abandoned and inoperable vehicles through public education and closer coordination with City departments.

The new initiative responds to a concern shared by neighborhoods across South Central Los Angeles, where abandoned and inoperable vehicles continue to impact quality of life.

Abandoned and inoperable vehicles do more than take up parking spaces, they contribute to neighborhood blight, attract illegal dumping, create safety concerns and diminish the quality of life for the people who live here. This is an issue that affects neighborhoods throughout South Central Los Angeles.

As part of the campaign, you will see billboards, posters, social media and other educational materials explaining what vehicles may qualify for removal and how to report them through the City’s established process.

Council District 9 has also established a dedicated phone number and email address to assist residents with abandoned and inoperable vehicle concerns. District 9 residents can contact my office by calling our direct line (213) 791-0362 or emailing us at cd9abandon@lacity.org.

While the City’s 1-800-ABANDON hotline remains available to residents throughout Los Angeles, Council District 9 residents now have a direct connection to the Council office for help navigating the reporting process and coordinating with LADOT and Parking Enforcement.

Sincerely,
