Dear Neighbors,
On Feb. 26, the City of Los Angeles wrapped up African American Heritage Month with an unforgettable celebration! I had the honor of co-hosting alongside Mayor Karen Bass, Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson, and Councilwoman Heather Hutt as we came together to recognize the culture, history, and achievements of our Black community.
Los Angeles thrives on diversity, unity, and shared history, and this event was a powerful reminder of just that. Throughout February, we uplifted distinguished Black leaders across various fields—writers, artists, nonprofit leaders, labor advocates—paying tribute to the resilience and brilliance that have shaped our City and beyond.
This past week’s celebration was a true testament to the spirit of community. We honored local champions who uplift our neighborhoods, danced to the soulful sounds of the Liberated Arts Music Group, and enjoyed delicious food that brought us all together. It was an afternoon filled with joy, connection, and reflection.
The contributions of our Black community are rich with tradition and innovation, and we are privileged to experience the impact every single day.
I am grateful to have shared this moment with so many Angelenos. Check out our recap video by clicking the image above.
With sincere gratitude,
