Dear Neighbors,
African American History Month is a poignant time to honor the fortitude, vibrancy, and beauty of our culture. It's an opportunity to celebrate the pioneers who courageously fought for justice and equality, while envisioning a world where the legacy of our ancestors is fully embraced.
Together, we continue reaching for the mountaintop, and each day offers a new opportunity to inch our way forward. By standing in solidarity with our community, we can actively work towards achieving our aspirations and principles, showing care for our neighbors and dedication to each other.
The City of Los Angeles and Our Authors Study Club, Inc., inaugurated the 2024 African American History Month with an opening ceremony on Feb. 2. The event included a special Council presentation honoring trailblazers from various fields, such as Actress Kim Coles, Artist Mamie Hansberry, and Vocalist Freda Payne, alongside other influential changemakers.
We are excited to commemorate this occasion with upcoming events and additional tributes so stay tuned.
In solidarity,
