City of Los Angeles Seal Green Background

The Los Angeles City Council adopted an ordinance related to updating the Los Angeles Municipal Code (LAMC) to streamline the commercial cannabis licensing process. The ordinance is a product of a motion that Councilmember Price introduced asking the City Attorney to draft an ordinance to implement cannabis licensing changes to increase speed and equity for applications. Specifically, the motion asks the Department of Cannabis Regulation (DCR) to process the applications of Social Equity Applicants for state provisional cannabis licenses without delay. To do this, the motion asks DCR to give regular status updates to the Planning and Land Use Management Committee once an ordinance is adopted by Council. This motion comes after the City received complaints from stakeholders that DCR’s process has moved too slowly. The ordinance can be viewed here
