Convention Center

Dear Neighbors,

After more than a decade of advocating for the modernization and expansion of the Los Angeles Convention Center in Council District 9, I’m proud to see this long-awaited investment creating jobs, supporting local businesses and attracting new opportunities to our city.

One year into construction, more than 1,700 jobs have been created, nearly $10 million in wages have been paid to Angelenos, and small and minority-owned businesses have secured $500 million in contracts. The project is also attracting new business, with 18 major conventions already booked for dates following its completion.

For years, Los Angeles debated the future of the Convention Center while losing valuable business to competing cities. I believed we could no longer afford to wait. Working alongside Mayor Karen Bass and my City Council colleagues, I pushed to move this landmark project beyond the planning stages and into construction.

Today, construction remains on schedule and within budget. The Convention Center has long been an important economic anchor in our district, and I fought to ensure it would remain competitive while bringing greater opportunities to the people of Los Angeles.

The progress we’ve made is encouraging, and I’m excited about what lies ahead for Los Angeles and the thousands of Angelenos who stand to benefit from this investment.

Sincerely,
