Dear Neighbors,
I am delighted to congratulate my Council colleague Marqueece Harris-Dawson on his successful confirmation as the next President of the Los Angeles City Council.
On May 24, I joined six of my colleagues in introducing a motion calling for an election for Council President and to nominate Councilmember Harris-Dawson. Following a resounding 14-0 vote on Tuesday, Council President-elect Harris-Dawson is set to assume his new role on Sept. 20.
I eagerly anticipate our continued collaboration with Council President-elect Harris-Dawson, who has represented Council District 8 since 2015. His community-focused, dedicated, and passionate leadership is poised to unite the Council and steer us in the right direction. I am confident that, together, we will tackle the pressing challenges confronting our City, such as homelessness, public safety, and economic development.
I extend my appreciation for the exceptional leadership displayed by Council President Paul Krekorian in recent years. I take pride in the progress achieved under his guidance and commend his integrity, character, and unwavering dedication to the people of Los Angeles.
