To the finish line

Tourism Workers
Dear Neighbors,

Starting July 1, hotel and airport workers in Los Angeles could see a significant boost in their paychecks. A proposal I’ve championed—to set these essential workers on a path to earning $30 an hour by 2028—is now closer than ever to becoming reality.

During the Economic Development and Jobs Committee meeting on May 6, which I Chair, we advanced this policy that I’ve been diligently working on for two years. Our tourism workers—those who keep our hotels, airports, and visitor destinations running—deserve more than just getting by; they deserve a wage that reflects their invaluable contributions.

The ordinance now moves to the full City Council for consideration next Wednesday, May 14. While we’re not at the finish line yet, we’re on the final stretch.

Los Angeles has always been a city that attracts visitors from around the globe. With the World Cup on the horizon and the Olympics in 2028, our city’s appeal isn’t waning. But it’s imperative that the workers who make these events possible can afford to live in the city they serve.

I’m incredibly proud of all the workers who have kept the pressure on, remained steadfast, attended meeting after meeting, and never lost hope. Your fight and determination are the driving forces behind this progress.

As the representative of a district with one of the highest concentrations of tourism workers, this initiative resonates deeply with me and is crucial to the well-being of our community.

I will continue to stand with tens of thousands of workers across the City of Los Angeles through every challenge because this is a fight worth fighting.

To the finish line,
