Dear Neighbors,
After years of organizing and advocacy, the City Council just delivered a historic win for hotel and airport workers in Los Angeles.
Starting July 1, tens of thousands of tourism workers — including cooks, room attendants, dishwashers, and airport staff — will begin moving toward a $30-an-hour wage by 2028. It’s the highest wage and benefit plan in the nation for this workforce.
This wasn’t easy. It took years of pushing, standing with workers, and refusing to back down. In my District, where the tourism industry employs thousands, this change is a lifeline.
These are the people who kept LA going through the hardest times. And as we prepare for global events like the World Cup and the Olympics, we’re reminded that the strength of our City has always come from the workers behind the scenes.
My office has been proud to help lead this effort alongside Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martínez. This is what happens when workers stay organized, demand justice, and City Hall listens and delivers. Click on the image above to watch special footage from the May 14 meeting.
