Dear Neighbors,
During a special Veterans Day Council presentation on Nov. 8, I had the distinct pleasure of honoring one of our country's finest veterans, George Salem. Mr. Salem proudly served in the United States Navy from 1981-1985, working as a structural mechanic on aircrafts and helicopters. Throughout his service, he was stationed in Maryland and San Diego, where he contributed his skills and dedication to maintaining the integrity of these vital machines.
Currently, Mr. Salem resides in one of our newest Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) developments at Rise Apartments in District 9, where veterans like himself have found a comfortable and secure living space that not only fits their needs but also nurtures a sense of camaraderie among fellow veterans.
Recognizing his commitment to service goes far beyond the years he spent in the Navy; he continues to make a positive impact in the lives of others, devoting much of his time at our local Theresa Lindsay Senior Center, where he volunteers. Mr. Salem exemplifies the true spirit of Veterans Day – honoring those who have selflessly served our nation and continue to serve their communities.
To continue our celebration of local veterans, my Office in collaboration with the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, will be hosting a FREE community event on Nov. 18. The festivities will include fun for the whole family, as well as resources for neighbors. Click here for more details.
