After the approval with a second vote in Council, the City has moved to enhance protections for hotel workers. The action will support them by requiring employers to limit the daily workload of housekeepers, offer overtime pay, provide “panic buttons” for sexual harassment protection, offer training on how to use the panic button and do away with archaic policies that automatically forgo daily cleaning, effective immediately. With the return of tourism in the City, the ordinance is intended to promote fairness for service industry workers as their workload increases.
