Councilmember Price led a presentation on March 19 to honor the retirement of Belinda Jackson, recognizing her 23-year tenure with the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks. Ms. Jackson’s extraordinary contributions have played a pivotal role in fostering stronger, healthier, and more equitable communities throughout LA.
During her two-decade tenure serving as the Executive Director of EXPO Center, the largest family recreational complex in California underwent a remarkable renaissance on her watch. With Ms. Jackson at the helm, she transformed it into the crown jewel of the Recreation & Parks Department featuring a preschool, Senior center, swim stadium, amphitheater and the stunning Rose Garden.
While in CD 9, Belinda Jackson will be remembered as someone who helped shape EXPO Center into the cherished community hub it is today, her remarkable journey did not end there. In 2022, through her impactful leadership, Ms. Jackson was promoted to Recreation & Parks Assistant General Manager (AGM) over the Recreation Services Branch.
Overseeing the operations of over 500 parks and more than 123 recreational centers throughout the City, Ms. Jackson played a pivotal role in the expansion of PlayLA, a groundbreaking $160 million initiative which offers every child in the City an opportunity to engage in sports activities right in their own neighborhoods. Her command has been significant in ensuring that the program continues to thrive, empowering youth across Los Angeles and instilling in them the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and resilience.
Congratulations Belinda Jackson, you will forever be a District 9 SHero!
