I’m proud to share news that earlier this week, my colleagues unanimously named me President Pro Tempore of the LA City Council.
Council President Paul Krekorian and I were sworn in on Tuesday as part of the new leadership that will take the reins at City Hall following the resignation of former Council President Nury Martinez. Unfortunately, Councilmembers Kevin de León and Gil Cedillo continue to defy calls to step down from their positions on the City Council.
I look forward to working with Council President Krekorian and the rest of my colleagues as we work to help our City heal, restore public confidence and bring honor back to City Hall. At a time of rising violence, great animosity and hateful rhetoric, we must come together as one to reclaim who we are as a City.
Over the years, we have come together as one body with one goal: to lift all Angelenos up and leave no one behind. I will continue to lead the charge on progressive priorities that will benefit the entire City. Together, we will forge ahead with pathways to prosperity by advancing racial equality and economic opportunity for all.
We’ve got some difficult days ahead but as one of my heroes, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, "We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.”
