More than 40,000 people attended the Inaugural Latino Carnaval in South Central, a landmark celebration held at South Park Recreation Center on Oct. 11. The event, in honor of Latino Heritage Month, has been widely hailed as one of the most successful in recent history.
Headlined by the legendary La Original Banda El Limón, the festival featured three stages of live music, showcasing GRAMMY award-winning performers and local favorites. The star-studded lineup included Banda Maguey, Los Cadetes de Linares, Baby Bash, Oro Sólido, Nina Sky, Amanda Perez, Paula DeAnda, and La Sonora Dinamita.
“I have always wanted to bring an event like this to our District because I want to pay homage to the Latino community in South Central and everything the culture represents,” said Councilmember Curren Price, whose office hosted the event. “Here in Los Angeles, we embrace the immigrant spirit, marked by perseverance, sacrifice, and courage."
Attendees also enjoyed a Ferris wheel, Lucha Libre wrestling matches, sports activations, interactive games, local art, food trucks, and more than 100 vendors and community booths, turning the festival into an immersive experience for all ages.
As part of the festivities, District 9 Deputy Chief of Staff Jose Ugarte honored La Original Banda El Limón with a special proclamation, officially naming a day in their honor to recognize the band’s remarkable 60-year legacy.
The event, which drew Mayor Karen Bass and LA City Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson, was produced in partnership with the Happy Group, Sueño Team, and others.
