Dear Neighbors,
After over a decade of debate and anticipation, the City Council is poised to move forward with plans for the Los Angeles Convention Center renovation and expansion project. This follows the recent advancement of the proposal by the City Council Budget, Finance and Innovation (BFI) Committee, as well as the Trade, Travel and Tourism (TTT) Committee, marking a significant milestone in our city's development and promising to usher in a new era for the Convention Center and the community at-large.
In the coming months, we will enter into a pre-development phase to determine the possibility of completing the project in time for the 2028 Olympic Games. If deemed feasible, construction is set to begin in the spring of next year. This ambitious project is expected to bring thousands of new jobs, and the ability to welcome hundreds of thousands more visitors and host world-class conventions in our City.
The $1.4 billion renovation and expansion plan includes several key enhancements:
190,000 square feet of additional exhibit hall space, achieved by connecting the existing South and West Halls.
55,000 square feet of additional meeting room space, catering to a wider range of events and conferences.
95,000 square feet of multi-purpose space, offering versatile venues for various functions.
A redesign of Gilbert Lindsay Plaza, transforming it into a modern and welcoming public space.
As the representative of District 9, home of the LA Convention Center, I am proud to say that this project is a cornerstone in building a brighter future for Los Angeles. Stay tuned for more updates as we turn the page on this exciting new chapter.
In solidarity,
