Dear Neighbors,
The Central Avenue Jazz Festival is turning 30 and South LA is throwing one unforgettable party this Saturday, Sept. 20! From morning to evening, Central Avenue will be filled with music, culture, and community, all for FREE.
We’re honored to welcome international jazz sensation Gregory Porter—the multi-GRAMMY award winning vocalist whose soulful blend of jazz, gospel, blues, and soul has captured hearts worldwide. Plus, get ready for the electrifying set from Poncho Sánchez, the legendary GRAMMY-winning conguero who’s been shaping Latin jazz for over four decades. Make sure to also catch Jazzmeia Horn, whose powerful voice and visionary artistry are redefining jazz today. They’ll share the spotlight with a host of talented emerging and established musicians across all three of our live stages.
Beyond the music, you’ll find four themed pavilions with art exhibits, interactive activities, and resources for the whole family. Kids can enjoy crafts and games, while families can take advantage of free health and dental screenings. The community marketplace will be buzzing with local vendors, flavors, and treasures.
The festival runs from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. along Central Avenue, between Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard and Vernon Avenue. Pro tip: parking is tight, so plan ahead—Metro, rideshare, or carpooling will make your day a whole lot easier.
South LA, this is your block party. Come celebrate 30 years of jazz, culture, and community where it all began. Click on the image above or here to watch a special video featured on LA in a Minute.
In solidarity,
