The Los Angeles City Council approved a motion introduced by Councilmember Price designating the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum as the official and exclusive venue for the closing ceremony of the 2028 Olympic Games. The original proposal had suggested splitting the event between SoFi Stadium in Inglewood and the historic Coliseum in Exposition Park.
This move highlights the Coliseum’s enduring legacy as a global symbol of athletic achievement and civic pride. Having previously hosted the Olympic Games in 1932 and 1984, the 2028 Games will mark the third time the iconic stadium in District 9 has served as an Olympic venue, making it the only stadium in the world to hold that distinction.
