Dear Neighbors,
As June begins, we proudly celebrate Pride Month, a time to recognize the LGBTQIA+ community and the many ways its members help shape the city we call home. Here in Council District 9, I was honored to recognize Maximilian Pizzi and Federico Laboureau during a special presentation on June 6 as this year’s LGBTQIA+ Heritage Month Honorees.
Originally from Argentina, Max and Fede came to Los Angeles to pursue careers in wardrobe and production design while building a life together. Over the years, they have worked on projects for major studios, including Disney and Amazon. Most recently, they contributed to the iconic “Casita” featured during Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime performance.
Just before the pandemic, the couple made District 9 their home. They quickly embraced the neighborhood, becoming active members of the community and always willing to lend a hand when needed.
When work in the film industry slowed in 2024, Max and Fede found themselves at a crossroads. What started as baking empanadas for friends and family soon became a new path forward. Driven by a love for their culture and a desire to create something of their own, they turned a home-based endeavor into a business that reflects both their heritage and their entrepreneurial spirit.
Later that year, they opened Fuegos LA, serving empanadas and traditional Argentine dishes to the South Los Angeles community. Since then, the restaurant has become a place where people from different backgrounds come together over good food.
Their impact extends beyond the restaurant itself. Max and Fede have welcomed local organizations, neighborhood councils, and community groups into their space, making Fuegos LA a place where community connections can grow.
I encourage you to visit Fuegos LA at 3957 S. Western Ave., enjoy a meal with family and friends, and support two individuals whose story reflects the determination and creativity that make our communities stronger.
Congratulations, Max and Fede, on this well-deserved recognition.
Happy Pride Month,
