The City Council approved a report from the Energy, Climate Change, Environmental Justice, and River Committee that instructs the Bureau of Sanitation to expand the residential organics collection program to comply with the CalRecycle regulations to reduce organic waste disposal by 75 percent by 2025.
Sanitation must expand the residential organics collection program from 18,000 to 40,000 starting July 1, 2022 and from 40,000 to 75,000 by Dec. 31, 2022.
