The City Council approved a report from the Civil Rights, Equity, Immigration, Aging and Disability Committee requesting an amendment to the Memorandum of Understanding for RepresentLA to expand eligibility. Represent LA is a public-private partnership involving the City, County and the Weingart Foundation. This comprehensive initiative pools resources to offer free legal representation for individuals in removal proceedings, legal counsel and more.

Earlier this year, the Council adopted a motion to expand the scope of eligibility by including detained, non-detained and merit-blind removal defense, noting that immigrants lack a constitutional right to legal counsel in today's legal process. By removing barriers, these funds are able to cast a wider net and work towards keeping more families together. To read the report, please click here.
