Dear Neighbors,
Los Angeles has become a battleground in a rising campaign of fear and cruelty targeting immigrants. No one is safe — not U.S. Senator Alex Padilla, who was forcibly removed from a Department of Homeland Security press conference, slammed to the ground, and handcuffed like a criminal. Not SEIU President David Huerta, who’s now facing federal charges just for documenting an immigration raid. And not our street vendors in Expo Park, who were targeted without warning simply for trying to earn an honest living.
What we’re seeing is deeply unsettling, but it also reveals some important truths. Despite the fear, our communities are rising up with courage and solidarity. These are the voices we need: the organizers, the protectors, the everyday people who refuse to stay silent.
If you’re protesting, I urge you to stay peaceful, stay focused, and stay powerful. Our City shows up for each other. We fight for dignity. We protect our people.
If you or your family have been impacted by these actions, please don’t hesitate to call my office at (323) 846-2651 so we can help guide you through these unprecedented times.
Over the years, we’ve built strong relationships with organizations like CHIRLA and CARECEN. Groups we’ve supported and helped bring into District 9 so that our families can access legal help, education, and aid right in their own neighborhoods.
Now more than ever, we’ve got to lean on each other, lead with love, and never back down. We stand together in the fight for justice and dignity for all.
In Solidarity,
